The Lee-Enfield SMLE No.1 Mk III
The SMLE No.1 needs no introduction and there is endless information on the internet about this rifle, so I'll just tell you a little about the one pictured above.
- I purchased it from my brother-in-law who owns a sporting goods store.
- I ended up replacing the barrel bands, butt stock, safety, magazine, and almost every screw and bolt as they were either stripped or rusted solid.
- The barrel is shot out measuring .313" between the groves and .308" at the lands. (My P14's are .303" and .298")
- The barrel has very bad pitting from years of neglect.
- I shoot it with hand loads to prevent damage to the already shitty barrel.
- it groups about 12-14" at 100 meters.
- All the stamped serial numbers match with the exception of the magazine.
- I'm aware that the sling is not the right one for the rifle.
