The Enfield P14
Now if you happen to stumble across this site researching the P14 you should just keep looking, there are many more sites with better information out there. However here is the cold notes basic run down for the P14:
- A variant of the Enfield P13 experimental rifle chambered in the experimental cartridge .276 Enfiled.
- Do to limited production capabilities in the UK production was subcontracted out to Winchester, Remington and Eddystone in the USA.
- Do to slight variants between manufactures all parts were stamped by the company which produced them, (W) for Winchester, (R) for Remington and (E) for Eddystone.
- From personal experence the most visible difference between Winchester and Eddystone is the stock. Winchester appears to be slighly thinner with finger groves, Eddystone was much thicker with no finger groves.
- Winchester produced approximately 400,000, Remington approximately 1,000,000 and Eddystone approximately 2,000,000.
- My observation has been that It appears there seems to be more Winchester made P14's in use and complete today then any other manufacture, however spare parts are usually stamped Eddystone.
- Due to the limited production of the P14 it never became standard issue and was mainly used for home defense and modified with telescopic devices for sniper work.
